The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Minister extended warm congratulations to Muslim faithful across the country for the successful completion of Ramadan.
“I extend heartfelt congratulations to all Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan,” the Minister stated.
He emphasized the importance of sustaining the spiritual values observed during Ramadan, including love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.
The Minister also urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic backgrounds, to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.
“This is a time for reflection and prayers for Nigeria’s continued unity and development,” he added.
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, the Federal Government encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and show compassion to the less privileged in society.
The government reiterated its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and national unity across all regions of the country.
